DESCRIPTION
For fans of the previous three games in the series, Super Valis IV is a mixed bag. The former star of the show, Yuko, is barely present in this game (players can only control new warrior Lena), background graphics and sounds are a disappointment (considering the power of the SNES), the story-telling cut scenes are missing (inexcusable!), and the Strider-like sword is short and can no longer fire bullets. On a more positive note, the action is smoother and quicker than it's ever been, Lena can shoot unlimited fireballs and perform a nifty assortment of magic spells, and gameplay is enjoyable, despite its inefficiencies. Interestingly, the controllable character can no longer slide, and the bosses grow stronger the longer it takes players to reach the end of the level. ~ Brett Alan Weiss, All Game Guide
