DESCRIPTION
Super Smash Bros. is a four-player brawler that pits popular Nintendo characters in comical combat situations throughout well-known locales. Fighters include Mario, Link, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Samus Aran, Kirby, Fox McCloud, Pikachu, and four bonus characters waiting to be unlocked. You'll battle outside such venues as Hyrule Castle, Yoshi's Island, the Congo Jungle, Planet Zebes, Sector Z, Peach's Castle, Dream Land, and Saffron City.
Two modes of play include solo and versus options. Vs. Mode lets you challenge up to three friends in four game types: Stock (limited number of lives), Stock Team (teams share limited lives), Time (knock off as many players as you can within the time limit), and Time Team (timed team battles). The single-player option features bonus rounds, boss battles, and unusual fighting situations across 11 levels. You'll take on multiple Yoshis, try to knock over a gigantic Donkey Kong, and even slug it out against an enormous hand.
In addition to each character's distinctive moves (such as Mario's fireball or Samus Aran's screw attack), various weapons and power-ups can be used in each stage. These randomly appearing items include beam swords, baseball bats, fans, turtle shells, hammers, and more. Your goal throughout each stage is to knock rival characters completely off the playing field. Basic moves include throws, shields, projectile attacks, and melee attacks. Progress is automatically saved to cartridge, and the Rumble Pak accessory is supported for vibration feedback. ~ Shawn Sackenheim, All Game Guide

“I spent an entire summer with four friends playing this game constantly when it first came out. We were young and nothing quite held the attention of four boys for so long as this title did. It doesn't hold up the test of time though as everyone figures out the exploits eventually, such as Kirby and his downward spin, and when that happens everyone pretty much rage-quits.
This game was the start of many more to come though and this series is beloved by just about everyone for it's extreme nostalgia! Even the newer installments feature characters not created by Nintendo! It will soon become a game where every character goes to.”

“This game was like a dream comes true for every Nintendo-Fan! 2 sequels tell you it really rocked the house! Again, Nintendo made a good Multiplayer.”

“Never unlocked Ness in this, but otherwise I always had fun playing. I still remember the old "Happy Together" commercials. Jigglypuff is ultra cheap though to play, but I was usually a Link player. What can I say, Link is the man.”

“Classic. Few games can make 4 player competition this enjoyable. The newer games are too balanced and lenient, one mistake in this game can easily end you at close to perfect health.
Played this game a lot in high school and got extremely good at it with Ness.
All the characters are unique, yet share a common control scheme and no character is far superior to any other. ”

“LOVED this game as a kid. One of the few games I was pretty good at. Always whooped my friends, and not by playing Ness (until Melee, I was a Link player). I remember one time, walking into a game shop where these two older kids kept driving people away from the game by double-teaming everyone else, so I decided to have a crack at them. Was able to beat them when they tried to double team me. Played against them for a few rounds, until after their last match, the bigger one looked over and said "Damn kid, you're good at this!" and then they left. I felt pretty cool ^_^”

“This game is awesome. Plain and simple. it's hard to beat Nintendo characters destroying each other with all manner of weaponry, powerups, items, and fighting moves. Sure, every character is ridiculously powerful, but that's why I still enjoy this game. I enjoyed the two sequels, Melee more than Brawl if only for the massive amount of time I sank into that game (150hrs.). Overall, one of my favorite games and/or series, and another reason why I greatly enjoyed Nintendo games from the 90's.”
