Super Smash Bros. is a four-player brawler that pits popular Nintendo characters in comical combat situations throughout well-known locales. Fighters include Mario, Link, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Samus Aran, Kirby, Fox McCloud, Pikachu, and four bonus characters waiting to be unlocked. You'll battle outside such venues as Hyrule Castle, Yoshi's Island, the Congo Jungle, Planet Zebes, Sector Z, Peach's Castle, Dream Land, and Saffron City.

Two modes of play include solo and versus options. Vs. Mode lets you challenge up to three friends in four game types: Stock (limited number of lives), Stock Team (teams share limited lives), Time (knock off as many players as you can within the time limit), and Time Team (timed team battles). The single-player option features bonus rounds, boss battles, and unusual fighting situations across 11 levels. You'll take on multiple Yoshis, try to knock over a gigantic Donkey Kong, and even slug it out against an enormous hand.

In addition to each character's distinctive moves (such as Mario's fireball or Samus Aran's screw attack), various weapons and power-ups can be used in each stage. These randomly appearing items include beam swords, baseball bats, fans, turtle shells, hammers, and more. Your goal throughout each stage is to knock rival characters completely off the playing field. Basic moves include throws, shields, projectile attacks, and melee attacks. Progress is automatically saved to cartridge, and the Rumble Pak accessory is supported for vibration feedback. ~ Shawn Sackenheim, All Game Guide

“@colliny2k well, that is part of why it is fun. It makes next to no attempt to be this super realistic driving sim. I mean, you load it up, play it, and you have fun. I mean, even most super realistic driving sims make a large amount of blatant errors with how cars operate. The biggest example is that as soon as the camera enters the car, the dash board, steering wheel and hood of the car itself are gone. Also it become impossible to do, "mirror, mirror, shoulder, signal, shoulder" in those games in 1st person mode. This and other things that could be deconstructed from these "realistic games" generally just put them as elaborate arcade games. At least when you are putting on a Cruis'n game, you do not have to worry about putting on an air of preteniousness about the matter.

Though, I will note, I have heard this about Gran Tourismo, "all of the really good drivers I know are also awesome in Gran Tourismo"--and this case may have some merit as I have read through some of the stuff given here.

I may need to somehow grab a PS2 just for a copy of this game.”

“Yes, this game saved much of Nintendo's fanbase. Generally when the Wii first came out, one of the games people wanted more than anything else was Super Smash Bros Brawl. I mean, that game alone, prolly sold a few copies of the Wii (I know it did for me).

So, despite the N64 slowly dying (well, it was almost past clinically dead in many's eyes at this point), this game really helped out Nintendo.”

“Isn't he? I remember one time a childhood friend and I were really bored at at a sleep over, so we put the AI on 9 and had a 4 player, all CPU versus match with the max number of lives. It was still going on in the morning when we woke up... and into the afternoon.
