A spin-off of the Super Robot Wars series of action strategy games, Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier instead incorporates more role-playing elements, as players form a squad of four and battle across several different worlds in a turn-based manner. Gamers must be mindful of each character's "HP" (health points), "SP," which allows players to heal injuries or unleash special attacks, and "COM," which governs the total amount of effort a character can put forth in a turn. General exploration takes place on foot through a 2D overworld, but the actual battles resemble those of a traditional 2D fighter, thanks to a chain-attack system that lets gamers string together long assaults through a series of timed button presses. A "frontier gauge" builds as players attack their opponents, and if the coup de grâce is delivered when the gauge is full, then the entire battle party earns extra experience points.
