“Fairly classic game for the SNES. Back before Nintendo really learned how to make the most use of the SNES' capabilities.
There are a lot of better side scrollers out there for the SNES.
This however has a soft spot for many, as it was their first introduction into a lot of Mario games.
To many, it was also their introduction to Yoshi. The dinosaur friends of Mario, that Bowser has for some reason decided to lock up inside eggs and then put the eggs that bowser has locked them inside into castles to be guarded by the Koopa Kids.
Right, keep forgetting.
Koopa Kids were the world bosses to the first (true) successor to Super Mario Brothers. The Koopa Kids were the children of King Koopa, that he had created somehow. The details on this creation have never fully been addressed.
It gets odd, when not there are the Koopa Kids and Bowser Jnr.
It gets funny when you start to think that person Princess Peach is getting kidnapped on purpose here as for some kind of--I dunno. As in Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, Peach kind of kicked Bowser out of her castle on her own. Right at the beginning she does some powerful magic and Bowser finds himself being flung out of the castle.
So, considering I think Princess Peach Toadstool kind of likes being kidnapped, and the parentage of the Koopa Kids and Bowser Jnr has not decently been explianed, I am going to go with yes, their mother is Princess Peach.
Unless you go with the mechanics of Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga. In which the Koopa Kids' mother may very well be Bowers himself when he was herserlf Bowletta.
Anyways, where was I--oh right. This game served mostly as an introduction to some of the series key concepts. Such as the ability to do levels in different orders and in some cases, revisit older levels.
I would have personally preferred it if the tanuuki tail and tanuuki suit did return in this one. As well--I kind of liked that more than the idea of capes.
They also removed the ability to store a large amount of power ups given via various over world devices by giving one reserve power up. That is you had the power up that you made us of--and for various purposes you can call for the item you had in reserve.
This game also started the "Star Road" world that has became a staple in Mario Brothers games since then. Though, Star Road's humble beginnings were not really as grand as what they would come to be, and to mean in later games.
I dunno--I suppose that if the did keep the Tanuuki Tail, Star Road may be been made quite a bit different.”

“Really no idea why I bought this game. Maybe I thought it would surprise me more. I was kind of hoping that they will eventually bring out Yoshi's Island for the Wii VC. They have Yoshi's...”
