“My thoughts as to why Lost Levels wasn't released was because it was more or less the same game as SMB1, just with new levels. I mean thanks to game mods and ROM edits that came in later years, I can honestly see much of what is in Lost Levels being able to be done with some simple modifications to a few things in SMB.
I thought the whole idea Nintendo had was: "wait a second, this game is too much like our last one"
Keep in mind, it was made shortly after the crash of 1983, and a lot of the games before that were just remixes of others. Nintendo had to really do a lot of damage control with the NES.”
