Super Lem involves maneuvering a spacecraft around various moon bases while collecting a series of important items, or booster packs. There's one small problem: there are all kinds of enemies located on the screen, and they have been ordered to prevent the vessel from collecting these items.
Before the action commences, one can select from nine speed settings. Higher speeds are designed to be more difficult as the action moves in an increased pace. Whichever speed is selected, there are various moon bases to visit — some are on meteors while others float in space.
The vessel must maneuver over the booster packs in order to collect them. Because the vessel must float in space, its boost power allows it to move in an upward fashion. This power is limited, however, and will last a few seconds. Since there is a limited amount of booster power that can be applied each time, the vessel must land on various platforms located around the base.
Enemies will move in random patterns and head for the vessel. Because the craft cannot fire missiles or rockets, evasive tactics must be used at all times. As an avoidable measure, the ship can float towards the bottom of the screen and reappear at the top. When all items located on the screen have been collected, a new base is presented. ~ Matthew House, All Game Guide
