DESCRIPTION
Another of the rare quartet of Parker Brothers arcade translations for the Odyssey 2, this version of Konami's Super Cobra may be proof that there's only so far programmers could go with that console. Though it does replicate, to some degree, the helicopter-in-an-enclosed-cave-system game play of its coin-op inspiration, this home edition comes across as very clumsy, and at times almost unplayable. When your chopper reaches the right side of the screen, the caverns don't smoothly scroll to the left — instead, the entire screen, including the helicopter, shifts over so that you're starting at the left side of the screen again. Anytime you reach the edge of the screen an awkward pause throws off any rhythm the game is building. Amusingly, another limitation of the Odyssey 2 makes itself painfully clear when your helicopter takes a hit: the tail section explodes first, and then the front section — there wasn't enough memory to explode the entire vehicle all at once! Worth seeking for completists due to its extreme rarity (like all of the Parker Brothers Odyssey 2 titles, this game was distributed only in South America and Europe), Super Cobra is sadly lacking in simple playability and fun. ~ Earl Green, All Game Guide
