DESCRIPTION
One of just three Sears exclusive Atari 2600 games, Submarine Commander has you protecting your country as captain of your own ship. The submarine you command is very powerful as it is equipped with a radar scope, a sonar detector, a depth charge indicator, status indicators, a fuel readout, an engine temperature gauge and, most importantly, torpedoes.
You play the game as though you were looking through a periscope. Use the joystick button to fire torpedoes from the right and left side of your sub in an alternating fashion. Pushing the joystick left and right will steer your sub left and right while pushing it up and down allows you to see close up to or far away from the horizon.
Basically, your job is to fire torpedoes at as many destroyers, PT boats, and tankers as you can until your sub inevitably runs out of fuel. Every time you launch a torpedo, maneuver your ship, or get hit by a depth charge, fuel will be consumed. You should learn to use the various gauges on your ship to stay alive as long as possible. For example, the sonar detector lets you locate enemies before they appear onscreen. Submarine Commander features two skill levels and eight game variations. ~ Brett Alan Weiss, All Game Guide
