DESCRIPTION
Rather than focusing on storyline, Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition focuses on fighting technique and the player's ability to master the various moves of the different combatants. Each of their moves are executed through a series of joypad movements and button combinations. The innovative button design allows for three potencies of punches and kicks, which not only gives a greater amount of potential moves, but forces players to develop effective strategies to counter a variety of attacks. In addition, the ability to play multiple characters gives Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition immense replay value.
The Sega version of this game in particular is considered by many to be an accurate translation of the arcade hit, with reworked sound/sound effects and special codes that can be used to play as the boss characters. ~ Paul Biondich, All Game Guide

“We bought two six-button controllers specifically for this game, and they made it worthwhile. The game play was exactly what you'd expect and the addition of the playable boss characters meant that the SNES version got dusty pretty quickly.”
