Set chronologically between Street Fighter and Street Fighter II, Street Fighter Alpha: Warriors' Dreams continues the series' slow evolution with several innovations, including three levels of super combos, improvements to the blocking system and new moves called Alpha counters that can reverse an attack after a block. Of the ten initially available characters, Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li and Sagat are from Street Fighter II, with Adon and Birdie returning from the first Street Fighter and Guy making a crossover appearance from Final Fight. Akuma and M. Bison are unlockable via codes, as is a character named Dan, who was created to parody the derivative characters in SNK's fighting games. Graphically, SFA is somewhat of a step backwards from Super Street Fighter II Turbo, as the character designs and animation are solid, but the backgrounds are unimpressively plain. ~ Skyler Miller, All Game Guide
