DESCRIPTION
Stargate, the sequel to the popular Defender, once again pits you against hordes of invading aliens determined on conquering your planet by kidnapping its citizenry.
All of your tricks from Defender have returned, along with a few new ones. In addition to smartbombs and hyperspace, you can now render your ship invisible with the invisio button and warp around the planet by using the Stargate. If a humanoid is being kidnapped, pop into the Stargate and you will be instantly transported to rescue your fellow citizen. If your ship is carrying four or more humanoids, you will be warped ahead four waves in the game.
Stargate utilizes both joysticks for play. Joystick one is your main controller and joystick two is used to activate smartbombs, Hyperspace and Invisio.
Stargate offers a wide range of enemies who are out to stop you. Landers are the alien kidnappers. If they successfully make it to the top of the screen with a humanoid, Landers turn into destructive Mutants. Yllabian Space Guppies float about aimlessly and are deadly to the touch. Firebombers come at you with considerable determination. You will also face Pods, which beget Swarmers when shot open. Additionally you will face Dynamos, Baiters, Phreds and Munchies.
Use the radar scanner to look for off-screen enemies as well as humanoids in peril. ~ Michael Schwartz/Joan Dykman, All Game Guide
