Star Wars: X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter — Balance of Power Campaigns is set in the Airam sector of the Outer Rim. You may play as either a pilot for the Rebellion or the Empire; each campaign includes 15 missions.
As a Rebel starfighter pilot, you are a member of the highly vaunted Rogue Squadron. Your task is to promote relations with the Airam people, to capture Imperial technology so it may be converted for use by the Rebellion and to eventually destroy the Super Star Destroyer Vengeance.
If you choose to play as an Imperial pilot, you are assigned to the Rogue's Imperial counterpart — Avenger Squadron. Your mission is to ensure the cooperation of a sect of the Airams, to protect Imperial interests as new technology becomes available and to track down and destroy the Rebels.
The campaigns may be played in either single player or cooperative multi-player modes. Balance of Power also includes two new melee missions, which are head-to-head combat arenas, eight new combat missions and one new battle. Combat missions and battles pit a Rebel team against an Imperial team but battles include more than one mission.
Beyond adding new campaigns and missions, Balance of Power also includes starships and a starfighter, the B-Wing, that were omitted from Star Wars: X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter. Direct 3D support is also included. You will need to have the original X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter available and the game will ask for your Star Wars: X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter — Balance of Power Campaigns CD from time to time as a means of copy protection. ~ Beth Wasden, All Game Guide
