Back some time ago, anybody who owned a computer had to worry about something called "burn-in." When the computer monitor showed the same image for hours upon hours for many days, there was a good chance the stream of electrons making up the image could actually strip away part of the backing on the computer monitor. This led to ghostly images that floated on the screen whenever the computer was turned on, or, in worst cases, would remain visible even after the computer was turned off. Screensavers attempted to do away with this problem by projecting moving images whenever the computer was left alone for a set period of time.
After the success of After Dark and More After Dark, the first stand-alone screensaver set was released, named Star Trek: The Screensaver, with modules based on the original television series Star Trek. This program is a stand-alone program that does not need the original After Dark to run. ~ Lisa Karen Savignano, All Game Guide
