DESCRIPTION
In the tradition of Konami's Parodius, Hudson Soft brings us Star Parodier. The game is part of the Super Star Soldier series but sets itself apart through its theme. Like Parodius, Star Parodier is a parody shooter. The game takes its characters and images from other Hudson games and properties.
Players can choose from three ships. The first ship is a giant flying Bomberman, the second a more normal spaceship named Paro-Ceaser, and the third ship is actually a flying PC Engine with arms and legs. There are three basic weapon upgrades, differentiated by color, with different icons depending on which ship players choose to use. Collecting a weapon upgrade enhances that weapon if the player is currently equipped with it, or changes the player to that weapon at the power level of the ship's previous weapon if the ship isn't equipped with it. Players can also collect other power-up icons for shields and options.
The game progresses through ten distinct stages, with players having to battle their way through both mid-bosses and end-level bosses. If an enemy hits the player's ship, it loses one level of power-up on its current weapon. But if the ship is already at the lowest power-up level, it's destroyed. To aid in sticky situations, players also have a stock of super bombs to detonate. ~ Kyle Knight, All Game Guide
