DESCRIPTION
First developed for the arcade in 1978, the seminal Space Invaders has received a makeover, courtesy of Torus Games, for its GBA debut. It's been 30 years since humanity managed to fend off the last alien invasion, but with this latest onslaught the stakes have been raised and now the fate of the entire galaxy rests in your hands. Players must travel to ten different worlds and complete no fewer than 100 levels as they fight for survival. Gameplay remains true to the original, though a few new features are offered.
Controlling a small, horizontally moving tank, players fire upon wave after wave of descending, multi-colored alien marauders. By destroying four of the same species of alien consecutively, players will be awarded with a new weapon (each alien type yields a specific armament) that can be deployed. These weapons range in function from blasts that are capable of destroying entire rows and columns of invaders to missiles that ricochet around the screen. Also new to the franchise is the introduction of boss battles. Each world consists of ten stages, at the conclusion of which players will face off against a giant boss creature.
Competitive and Cooperative gameplay modes are offered, allowing two players to team up against the extra-terrestrial menace or compete to see who can destroy more aliens, though it necessitates a second copy of the game. A Classic mode is also included, providing an exact duplication of the original game for those players old enough to remember it. Battery backup saves your progress, while three levels of difficulty keep the game challenging. ~ Gavin Frankle, All Game Guide
