DESCRIPTION
Rather than create a straightforward port of the original Space Invaders, Atari opted to make a game that is very loosely based on the 1978 coin-op classic. This version is faster and less methodical, and the whirling, twirling, gyrating, mutating (in later levels) aliens are colorful and cute (to the point of silliness). Less significant differences include three bunkers instead of four and waves of 48 aliens instead of 55. Purists may scoff at this game, but it's a refreshing approach that works quite well. It's very challenging, quickly paced and a lot of fun. In addition, it has 12 variations, letting players dictate the number of lives (3 or 5) to start the game and what type of bombs the enemies fire (slow, fast and/or homing). Perhaps naming it "Space Invaders II" would have been more appropriate. ~ Brett Alan Weiss, All Game Guide
