DESCRIPTION
Released as a follow-up to the commercially successful Dragon's Lair, Space Ace is a similarly designed laser disc game (basically, an interactive cartoon) in which players help the title character make his way across a hostile alien landscape while zapping monsters and avoiding obstacles and bad guys. Three difficulty levels are available: Cadet, Captain and Space Ace. As with Dragon's Lair, gameplay is atrocious, relying on trial and error and plenty of guesswork. The predetermined scenes are beautifully done by Don Bluth's animation company, and the score and voice effects are excellent, but players' involvement is limited to determining which way Ace should go at various points and when he should use his blaster. Occasionally, it is necessary to "energize" to change from the nerdy Dexter to the heroic Ace. Watching Space Ace is more enjoyable than playing it. ~ Brett Alan Weiss, All Game Guide
