A unique follow up to Actraiser, Soul Blazer is an action-oriented role-playing game that, with its overhead view, sword battles, and gem collecting, will remind players of The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past. The game also borrows from the monster generators found in Gauntlet as players battle enemies coming out of portals. Killing the creatures —- this is where the game's uniqueness comes in to play —- results in the opening of a passageway, the finding of an item, or the releasing of the soul of a person, animal or plant. Detailed graphics, a terrific musical score, tough bosses, fun puzzles, a well-written story, lots of different swords and armor upgrades, and a little blue magic user that helps you along the way combine to make this an excellent entry in its respective genre. ~ Brett Alan Weiss, All Game Guide
