DESCRIPTION
An arcade-oriented snowboarding title from Spanish developer Hammer Technologies, Snow Wave Avalanche challenges players to compete in and excel at "Boardercross," "Big Jump," "Big Jump Race," and "X-treme Tour" disciplines. The "Boardercross" event takes place on a series of progressively harder slopes. Here, players must cross a series of checkpoints en route to the finish line. However, strewn about the course are a number of flags that must be passed on the correct side. Fail to do so too many times and you will be disqualified from the race.
Conversely, "Big Jump" focuses more on style than substance, requiring players to attain as high a score as possible by performing stunts and tricks in special arenas. "Big Jump Race" is a combination of both racing and stunt events, while the "X-treme Tour" mode runs players through a gamut of race and jump courses in quick succession.
Regardless of the discipline, players can choose to participate in three varying modes, namely, "Ghost Chase," "Time Attack," and "Surfer Rules." "Ghost Chase" pits racers against their previous race data, while "Time Attack" is a race against the clock to reach each of the slope checkpoints. The last mode, "Surfer Rules," allows up to four players, human or AI, to compete directly against one another. Four characters are available for selection, each with unique characteristics. ~ Gavin Frankle, All Game Guide
