DESCRIPTION
Skate or Die is a five-event skateboarding competition for your Nintendo Entertainment System. Enter your initials and take to the street as you challenge thrashers like Poseur Pete, Aggro' Eddie, and Lester.
You and up to seven of your friends can take on the concrete jungle in five separate events. They are the Joust, the Downhill Race, the Downhill Jam, the Ramp Freestyle, and the Ramp High Jump.
In the Joust, you grab a "bopper" and head to an empty swimming pool. Competitors start on opposites sides of the pool and skate at each other. When they pass in the middle, the player with the bopper tries to knock over the free skater. After five passes, the bopper switches to the other skater.
In the Downhill Race, players race against the clock on a course filled with hazards and obstacles. Players can choose to make huge jumps or to bypass them. Hitting the tricks earns bonus points but also increases the likelihood of crashes.
In the Downhill Jam, players race against another skater on a street course filled with litter, potholes, manholes, fences, and other obstacles. The Jam is set up in "goofy foot" mode, so joystick controls are the opposites of what they are the race.
In the Ramp Freestyle, skaters hit the half pipe to throw tricks and grab air. The better the trick, the more points the judges award. After ten passes, the judges award a bonus based on performance. Players with big tricks and no falls get high bonuses.
In the Ramp High Jump, players again hit the half pipe, this time with the sole intention of grabbing big air. Players get five passes to get their boards as high into the air as possible. Mess up, and you'll find yourself crashing through the bottom of the vert ramp.
Skate or Die features full competition and practice modes. Compete in one event or go for all five. ~ Anthony Baize, All Game Guide
