DESCRIPTION
You'll get to plan your city from scratch as you lay down roads and railroad tracks, clear away forests, and set about creating residential, industrial and commercial zones. You'll also need to install a power plant and hook everyone up with electricity. As the game progresses a month at a time at a speed set by you, you can watch buiildings sprout as your city grows and thrives. You'll get to set a yearly budget and decide how much to tax your citizens and how much to spend on the transportation, police and fire departments.
Later, you'll get the chance to build an airport, create ship docks, and even attract a professional sports team with a franchise. Plenty of maps, graphs and reports will keep you up-to-date on the status of your city, including the always important approval rating of your people. It takes a careful mix of crucial decisions to work your way up to a metropolis, but even once you're there you'll still need to worry about disasters such as plane crashes, floods, fires, and even a certain green monster who likes to eat trains for lunch. Are you up to the challenge? ~ Brad Cook, All Game Guide

“What are the Top 5 Games that were most influential to your gamerDNA? Actually I can't list five games and honestly say that those are without a doubt the five most influential games I ever played....”

“My first high rise apartment building finally spawned. This is my first time seeing the first one pop up so close to the edge of the map.”

“The first SimCity suffers from being all over the place. The interface needs a less confusing revamp, and some of the technical limitations - especially for zoning - are annoying. But the basic addicting city building is there.”

“One of the very first PC games I ever played. After Scoched Earth, this game was probably the second most responsible for getting me hooked on gaming. Had more depth and creativity than 90% of the games made since.”

“Playing SimCity was the reward for the fastest test taker when I was in middle school, so I got to play it a lot. Something about edging ahead of your classmates and then creating (and often destroying) intricate cities was always pleasurable.”

“This was not the first of the famous Maxis simulations, but it was the first to really take off. This version was also my usual excuse for incomplete homework in high school.”

“When I discovered it, SimCity was exactly what I was looking for. You are so powerful you can create a whole city from nothing, but doing it is as easy as painting.”
