The Play the World expansion pack brings subtle refinements and bold new features to the third edition in legendary game designer Sid Meier's masterpiece series. As hinted in the title, many of the enhancements in this release are aimed at bringing multiplayer support to the top-selling turn-based strategy. For the first time, brave Civilization III emperors can compete against other human opponents, in a number of different game types.

As in earlier multiplayer editions in the series, Civilization III: Play the World supports both "hot seat" and play-by-email options for long-term, thoughtful contests. Also supported are the standard turn-based and "simultaneous" game modes, over TCP-IP or LAN connections. New to the series is a "turn-less" mode, also available over the Internet or a local network. Game types such as "Elimination," "Regicide," and "Capture the Princess" are designed to encourage faster-paced play online.

In addition to the new multiplayer options, the expansion package adds elements to the original game for single players as well. Eight new civilizations are now available, each with a new leader. New map features and units are also added, along with new city improvements and wonders such as the Stock Market and the Internet. Featuring new cinematics, animations, and an interface designed to be even easier to navigate, Civilization III: Play the World has something to offer fans of all preferences and persuasions. ~ T.J.
