DESCRIPTION
Secret Files: Tunguska is a point-and-click adventure game in which players follow the story of Nina Kalenkov, daughter of a famous scientist. The tale begins with the scientist's unexplained disappearance, following the "Great Siberian Explosion" that took place near Russia's remote Lake Baikal on the morning of June 30, 1908. Believed by many to have been the result of a comet or meteorite that blew up in mid-air — in part due to eyewitness accounts of a column of light that preceded the estimated 15-megaton blast — much mystery yet surrounds the cataclysmic event (even 100 years later). Some have speculated that the explosion instead was related to a radioactive volcano near the devastated region, while others have pondered such causes as miniature black holes, antimatter bombardment, and even alien visitors from outer space. In the role of Nina, adventure gamers have an opportunity to investigate for themselves. ~ T.J. Deci, All Game Guide

“I got "Secret Files" because the Tunguska mystery is fascinating, far more fascinating than this game. I'm surprised there were no crystal skulls to be found. What a crappy game. The voice acting was atrocious, and the only parts more abominable were the apparently Google-translated dialog; the inconsistent, flatlining, and incredibly sexist "Don't worry, I'm a man"?? Seriously?) characterizations; and the convoluted, obscure item MacGyvering you have to do to solve each puzzle. I won't insert spoilers in case anyone actually likes this waste of four CDs, but suffice to say, thank god for internet walkthroughs and the saints who write them. All walkthrough writers ought to get medals. Memo to Deep Silver: if you're going to write a game in German, get a translator for the dialog in the local language of the game's release. Direct Google-like transliterations really do not help clarify the storyline. And hire a real writer who understands character and plot. You don't play adventure games for the action, you play for the puzzle-solving and the story. When both are pathetically lame, the whole thing is a disaster. And it closes with a threat: Nina and Max (and their horrifically sexist banter) will be back in a sequel. Dear lord, no. Hope they get new voice actors...and a better, less echoey recording studio. I am terrified to play any other Deep Silver games, and some actually look good. Hopefully they've learned something in the interim.”
