Rather than the behind-the-car/wheel model that San Francisco Rush fans have come to expect from the series, Rush 2049 for the Game Boy Color has opted instead for a top-down, isometric viewpoint, similar to the Micro Machines series or RC Pro-Am.
The title features five different cars to choose from, and all feature designs that are appropriately futuristic to fit the theme. The cars all have individual ratings as well, from top speed to nimble maneuverability. A total of nine different tracks are available to race, each accessible once you complete the previous one.
The tracks feature the jumps and shortcuts that the San Francisco Rush series is known for, and various power-ups are scattered about to improve your chances. You can either choose to play the game as a series of races, or choose a single track to tackle in the Time Attack mode. ~ Jon Thompson, All Game Guide
