DESCRIPTION
Road Riot is a traditional racing game with a twist. You have to complete several laps while competing against three CPU controlled cars — but you can shoot them down as well as outrace them.
The graphics consist of 2D sprites and backgrounds, but are done in a way to simulate a 3D feel. You view the game from a behind-the-car perspective, similar to the Sega's Out Run. The game uses movement along the side of the tracks as well on the track edges to simulate the sense of forward movement.
You can shoot CPU cars to cause them to lose control. But they can also shoot you. You must also deal with other course obstacles like wrecked cars and rocks, as well as fences, trees and signposts on the course edges. Hitting something will cause your car to crash. There are also many bumps in the courses to deal with. Landing badly will flip your car. You can crash or flip as many times as you want, but then the CPU cars have a chance to either catch up or extend their lead.
When the game begins, you must compete a preliminary race. Once you pass that stage you can choose from 11 tracks set in different locations around the world. You can choose to race these tracks in any order. ~ Kyle Knight, All Game Guide
