Originally scheduled for release in 1983 and again in 1989, RealSports Basketball didn't surface until 1998, when it was discovered as a playable prototype. In 2002, it received an official release at the Classic Gaming Expo courtesy of Retrodesign. It's unclear whether or not the game was actually finished, but it nonetheless feels incomplete, with a bare court, sluggish pace and unbalanced AI. The game features a two-on-two rendition of b-ball on a horizontal court, with each of your players moving in tandem and limited to the top and bottom of the screen, respectively. This makes for awkward gameplay, since you're unable to move a single player the full width of the court. The computer plays tough defense and offense, and steals the ball at every opportunity. The visuals are about on par with other entries in the RealSports series, which is to say they are relatively basic.
