DESCRIPTION

Rampart for the Atari Lynx has you defending a castle from waves of attacks, all while trying to capture the surrounding castles in each land. The game is played from a top-down perspective and is divided into three phases: building, cannon and battle. The initial phase involves first choosing a home castle, then watching as a wall automatically surrounds it. The remaining castles can be added to your arsenal once you've built walls around them.

From this point on, any damage to your walls must be repaired by using Tetrad-shaped pieces within the 26-second time limit. If the gaps are not covered within the allotted time, the game is over. The second aspect of the game is the cannon phase. Once your walls are built and secured, you can position a certain amount of cannons within the castle (the number depends on how many castles you have surrounded).

After placing the cannons, the battle phase will commence, which involves defending your castle from the attacks of enemy ships. Manipulate a cursor with the pad and press the fire button to launch your cannons, sinking as many ships as you can. After ten seconds of battle, the game will switch to the building phase, and the cycle continues until all ships are defeated.

The object of the game is to clear all of the levels on the map, which allows you to play on the more challenging Isthmus levels. Once you have survived these two levels, you will need to defend your castle from all sides while on an island! Beat this level and you will be victorious.
