DESCRIPTION
Raiden for the Lynx is Atari's portable console adaptation of Seibu Kaihatsu's shooter game. Players must single-handedly fend off an invading enemy horde with both ground and air units. Starting with a ship that can be destroyed in one hit equipped with a basic gun and a stock of bombs, players must fly through a series of levels destroying or evading enemy units. Players then must defeat the end-of-level boss before proceeding to the next stage.
Players can collect a variety of power-ups like increased shots, missiles and homing shots. Several types of weapon upgrades are available. The basic upgrade cycles between several different types, and players must pick them up while they're in the appropriate cycle for a desired weapon. Players can also collect bomb icons to add extra bombs to their stock.
Besides their starting ship, players also have three backup ships. Whenever a ship is destroyed, players lose all their collected power-ups, giving players a great incentive to use weapons immediately. After all ships are destroyed, players can choose to continue from the beginning of the level in which they died. ~ Kyle Knight, All Game Guide
