DESCRIPTION
Rage Racer was developed exclusively for the PlayStation by Namco, world leaders of arcade-racing and creators of the Ridge Racer and Pole Position series. Therefore it is easy to call Rage Racer the third Ridge Racer instalment to hit the PlayStation.
Again the game features three tracks, with each of the courses beginning with the same starting line to emerge into a completely distinctive course. Each of the courses take you through a multitude of ancient landmarks, cities, natural wonders such as light houses, tunnels, waterfalls, ruins, European styled villages etc. The graphics however have transformed from bubble gum like unrealistic environments, to drab and very realistic racing courses. On top of the three available tracks available from the onset, another bonus track is earnable as are all courses in reverse.
The newly formed Grand Prix mode replaces the original Arcade mode by taking advantage of a money based system. All up there are six challenges, with players having to gain a medal in each of the three or four races to qualify for the next class. However the new system awards racers for staying down a class, and earning extra cash to spend back on new, modified vehicles. A Time Attack mode also allows players to race singularly with the "hall of fame" best times feature allowing the top five times to be stored.
Players can also touch up on paint jobs, tyres, racing emblems and save them all to your memory card. Other options include a volume balance, music player, and data management features. ~ Brad Penniment, All Game Guide
