DESCRIPTION
The Nintendo 64's first role-playing game takes place on a 3D island named Celtland. A young Spirit Trainer named Brian is pressed into action when an ancient tome is stolen and his father goes missing. The three kingdoms of Celtland are now overrun with monsters, making Brian's quest all the more perilous. Played from a third-person perspective set behind the lead protagonist, Quest 64 features linear adventuring with random monster encounters as Brian explores towns, caves, forests, and other locales.
The battle system employs a turn-based format, where players freely move within a colored zone shaped like an octagon. Melee attacks are initiated with Brian's staff, and up to 50 elemental spells can be conjured in four schools of magic: fire, earth, water, and wind. Each school can become more powerful by finding 100 spirits hidden throughout the land. Also available to discover are a number of chests holding special items, from amulets to potions to food. Quest 64 includes support for the Controller Pak accessory, which is required to save progress. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

“This game was awesome. You are a warrior-mage on a quest and you get to explore a 3D world while casting spells and leveling up. This was the first of it's kind for the N64, as it took the stereotypical "We must go on a quest" adventure and made it 3D and cool. Although it has nothing on the games that came later such as Zelda: OOT, this game was great when the N64 was new.”

“A very underrated game. Sure, the graphics and storyline are crap, but the world is varied and interesting, and the combat system is really engaging. The ability to specialize in any of the four elements is a great addition as well.”
