DESCRIPTION
Released late in the life of the Master System, Psycho Fox is a cute and likable platformer that borrows from Super Mario Bros. (the fox can pounce) and Alex Kidd in Miracle World (the fox can punch). In addition to playing as the titular character, gamers can transform into a hippo, a monkey, and a tiger, each of which has varying abilities. For added help in getting through the game's seven levels (which consist of a graveyard, a desert, an ice world, and the like), a little crow named Birdfly perches atop Psycho's shoulder and can be thrown boomerang-style at the various enemies. Power-ups, such as invulnerability and higher jumping ability, can be found in eggs or can be taken from defeated enemies. The game is fairly lengthy, and players can take one of two routes for each level (ground or skyward), but the basic action is repetitious, the controls are a little frustrating, and the level design isn't particularly innovative. Overall, this is a fun, if largely unoriginal game. ~ Brett Alan Weiss, All Game Guide
