DESCRIPTION
Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom is a competent adventure game that's a throwback to the type of title popular in the early days of home computing. You take on the role of Sir Cucumber as he attempts to rescue Princess Tomato from Minister Pumpkin and his band of Farmies. The story is obviously silly, but talking with characters named Percy the Persimmon and visiting places like Spinach Heights helps keep things interesting in a way the gameplay itself doesn't. The graphics are ultra-simplistic, essentially consisting of static screens, and the sounds are similarly primitive, with generally monotonous music and an annoying beeping sound that occurs when text scrolls on the screen. You interact with your surroundings by selecting from 14 commands like Talk, Look, Move, Fight, Take and Use. Several of these commands are redundant and probably could've been compressed in half as many. The result is that you'll end up cycling through all the commands until you achieve the desired effect. Like most adventure games of this type, success is dependent on trial-and-error or the use of a strategy guide. ~ Skyler Miller, All Game Guide
