Portal is a 3D puzzle game played from a first-person perspective. The object is to advance through a series of rooms by using a gun to create a means of escape. Instead of lasers or bullets, the gun fires one of two opposing portal types: orange and red. One could be used as an entrance, while the other used as an exit. Portals can be fired on most surfaces, and the gun can also be used to pick up and toss objects. Storage and weighted "companion" cubes found within rooms are creatively used to activate switches, knock out security droids, and more. Turret guns, toxic liquid, crushing walls, and other hazards must also be avoided throughout play. A sarcastic, female-voiced computer will monitor your performance and serves as a droll guide for each area. She agreed and then a month or so later when my boyfriends birthday finally came after dinner the cake was brought in to the dining room.
It was huge, its like she wanted to make it to scale. It was also kinda green because his brothers printer is a little weird like that. It was also very heavy.
Now every time I play portal I think about that cake. The green and pink companion cube.
Well guess what - I can now call myself a gamer again. I've played, I've concoured (it's a pretty short game) and I now understand that shameful look. Concept-wise, it's one of the most simple games I've ever played. Execution-wise... it's simply brilliant. Convention-wise - it breaks molds. If you haven't played do yourself a flavor and get the game, block out 3 to 5 hours and simply enjoy.

Yee-motha(shut-your-mouth)-haw! Damn good fun... DAMN good fun! My mind got twisted a few times but I finally finished the "test" and have just begun the quest part of the game.
Hurray for Valve though huh - taking a chance on a seemingly unconventional game and really committing to it. I was also pleased to find that excellent sense of humor I enjoyed so much in Half-Life to be in Portal. Many laughs and many "what the hell do I do now's". I'll be at that game again soon.
