DESCRIPTION
In terms of stripped down gameplay, Popeye for the TI-99 is a competent port of Nintendo's 1982 arcade classic. Unfortunately, there are a number of subtle (yet annoying) differences that fans of the original are sure to notice. For example, the punching bag doesn't move, the platform Swee'Pea sits on doesn't move, and instead of crying out "HELP" letter by letter, Olive Oyl emits the word fully spelled out each time. Less subtle differences include simplified (though fairly pleasing) graphics, missing intermissions and the absence of skulls. ~ Brett Alan Weiss, All Game Guide
