DESCRIPTION
Well, blow me down! Popeye must prove his love for Olive Oyl by collecting 20 hearts before they fall down the screen and into the water. Each level is made up of four different floors or platforms that are linked by stairways on either side. While catching hearts may sound easy, there's a special someone who takes pleasure in making things difficult: Brutus.
Brutus will wander around the screen trying to grab or punch Popeye and take one of his four lives away. Brutus can also toss bottles, but a few well timed punches of your own will break them apart. Of course, Popeye has a secret weapon up his sleeve (actually in a can); his famous spinach power-up will appear at random times somewhere on the stage.
Punch the can and you'll be able to give Brutus a taste of his own medicine! You'll have to act fast, however, because once Popeye's theme song ends, he'll revert back to an ordinary sailor. Popeye also has to look out for the Sea Hag, who'll start tossing bottles whenever she's on the same floor (though you'll never see her).
Once you're finished collecting the required number of hearts, two more stages will follow with slightly different layouts and items to collect: musical notes and kisses (in the form of an X). There are also added features such as trampolines, chutes and sliding floors. Complete all three rounds and play will resume on a faster, more challenging pace. Gain an extra life for every 20,000 points earned! ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide
