DESCRIPTION
The world's first commercially successful Arcade game is back, this time for the PC! In the original Atari version of Pong (1972), your job was to control a vertically moving paddle and bat a bouncing ball past your opponent, who also controlled a paddle. The two paddles were at opposite ends of the screen. The first player to let the ball past his or her paddle ten times was the loser. Pong: The Next Level has the same basic play mechanics as the original game, but adds power-ups, more than 20 levels, 3D graphics, multiple game environments, Internet multiplayer options and other updated-for-the-'90s features.
Gone are the black, non-interactive backgrounds of the original game. Pong: The Next Level gives you soccer fields, ice rinks, the jungle and other environments, most of which play a role in the game. For example: moles pop up in the soccer fields to interfere with the ball and penguins do the same in the fields of ice. Also gone are the merely functional paddles of the Arcade classic. Depending on which power-up you obtain, you can whack the ball extra-hard, catch the ball and aim it, or do a number of other special moves. ~ Brett Alan Weiss, All Game Guide
