Pole Position II insists that you earn a starting position for the main race by first completing one lap with a fast lap time. If you take too long on the qualifying lap, you won't qualify for the main race and your game will come screeching to a halt. If, however, you are fast enough to qualify for one of the top eight spots, you must then successfully complete four laps to finish the race. You will gain additional race time for each lap that you complete. As you cruise along the winding roads and straight-aways trying to make the best time possible, you should avoid obstacles such as water puddles and other cars. Off-road obstacles include advertisement billboards and street signs. There are four racetracks from which to choose: Namco, Test, Wonder and Seaside. You view the racing action from behind and slightly above your car. Your vehicle has two gears: high and low. This game is for one player only. ~ Brett Alan Weiss, All Game Guide
