DESCRIPTION

In a plotline eerily foreshadowing the British cult TV series Red Dwarf, Infocom's Planetfall puts players in the shoes of the lowest-ranking member of a doomed stellar patrol ship. When the ship explodes in orbit of a distant planet, the player's lowly deck-swabber sets forth to brave the elements with chirpy Floyd the robot at his side.

One of Infocom's earliest science fiction text adventures, Planetfall nicely balances humor with the inherent seriousness of the situation, but most of the time errs on the side of comedy, a trait also shared with its sequel, Stationfall. Planetfall is also the brainchild of Steve Meretzky, who later went on to collaborate with Douglas Adams in Infocom's adaptation of Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Planetfall was itself later novelized, though with major changes in the basic premise, as part of a brief run of books based on Infocom's best-selling titles. ~ Earl Green, All Game Guide
