DESCRIPTION
Despite its descriptive title, its forgiving nature (getting a piece of cake close to the plate is close enough), and its cutesy gameplay, Piece o' Cake is anything but a cakewalk. Using the paddle controller, players guide a chef across the top of the playfield, dropping pieces of cake down to a plate moving that is moving by on a conveyor belt that moves faster and faster as the game progresses. Pieces must be stacked from largest on bottom to smallest on top, and a cake without a cherry topping things off will be considered incomplete. The chef looks like he was formed from LEGO toys (this is a good thing), but the rest of the screen is bland, and the sound effects consist of annoyingly repetitive bleeps and bloops. The action is sufficiently challenging, and this is a nice little premise for a game, but it should've been expanded upon. There's never more than one plate on the screen, there's just one conveyor belt, and the simple objective gets tiresome after repeated play. ~ Brett Alan Weiss, All Game Guide
