Pharaoh's primary mode of play is set up like a campaign. It is divided into time periods that each contain a group of missions. Before each mission the objectives are described and must be met before the next mission, and eventually next time period, can begin. Missions are not exact duplicates of events that took place in Egyptian history but they are influenced strongly by history.

Cleopatra: Queen of the Nile — Official Pharaoh Expansion includes enhancements to Pharaoh in the areas of gameplay, shortcut keys, and scope. There are four additional campaigns encompassing 15 missions that span history from the late New Kingdom era to Cleopatra's rule. Also, with this upgrade, you can play the missions included in Pharaoh in any order without completing the campaign. ~ All Game Guide
