As in its Sega arcade brethren, Pengo for the Atari VCS lets players guide a plucky polar waterfowl around a maze of ice blocks, trying to evade or crush an endless onslaught of Sno-Bees. If the maze is purged of Pengo's persistent pursuers, a new — and faster — level begins. The Atari VCS edition of Pengo replicates the gameplay faithfully enough, and not much visual flair is needed, but it does suffer from the flickering sprites that brought down many an otherwise playable VCS game (though not as bad as, say, Pac-Man). In other words, players can get accustomed to it, though they may get their ice kicked a few times until they do. Pengo for the Atari VCS is a pleasantly wintry winner of a coin-op port, though it's not one of the easiest cartridges to find. ~ Earl Green, All Game Guide
