DESCRIPTION
Once every full moon, a mysterious island rises from the sea, bringing the Volcano Goddess, Ooga Booga to the surface world. Inhabitants of each the four surrounding islands send their greatest witch doctors to a contest on the magical island, in the hope of winning the favor of the mighty Goddess. The tribe whose witch doctor can win the various competitions is spared from immediate danger while inhabitants of the other three tribes are doomed to suffer the wrath of the Ooga Booga.
The player takes the role of a witch doctor, or "Kahuna," chosen to represent one of the four tribes in the monthly competition. Each Kahuna is different and the player can choose a character whose strengths and weaknesses complement her style of play. The contests themselves are varied, including Deathmatch and Capture the Flag battles as well as more theme-specific challenges like Tiki Wars and Boar Racing. Winning the overall competition (and the fleeting favor of the Volcano Goddess) will require skill and talent in a variety of different areas.
The game is designed to offer immediate playability, even for the more casual gamer, while also providing an ongoing challenge for more devoted console aficionados. While Ooga Booga offers a story mode for the single-player experience, one of the game's most notable features is its support for online play. Using the Sega Dreamcast's built-in modem, up to four human-controlled Kahunas can compete over the internet for the ultimate prize of the Volcano Goddess' favor. A split-screen mode also allows players to compete head-to-head on the same system. ~ T.J. Deci, All Game Guide
