NHL 98 is a realistic hockey simulation which gives the player wide choice of options, such as customized viewpoints and a variety of play-by-play commentary settings. The game can be played alone against the computer, with two (or more) players on the same computer, or over a modem or network connection.
As the game starts, the camera takes in the entire stadium from the top rafters, then moves to focus on the scoreboard, then on the crowd far below, and finally on the players themselves, in a line at center ice, showing appropriate reverence as the last few notes of "Oh! Canada" echo through the arena.
The team continues to stand, hands on their hearts, as the end of their national anthem is drowned out by enthusiastic cheers from the crowd. In addition to realistic enjoyable gameplay, NHL 98 has music, shouting, and fights - nearly everything you'd find at a real hockey game. The fans continue to demonstrate their excitement as the players assemble in their places and the referee approaches center ice.
