DESCRIPTION
The final Dreamcast game commercially released in the United States brings to a close the 2K2 series of sports titles on Sega's 128-bit system. Developed by a different company than its predecessor, NHL 2K2 is designed to offer faster gameplay and more fluid animation than 2000's NHL 2K. All teams and players from the 2001 season are available in four modes of play: Exhibition, Season (full or half), Playoffs, and Tournament (four, eight, or 16 teams). Players can also adjust team rosters by performing trades and select one of 27 team strategies on both offense and defense to help determine overall aggressiveness at various zones within the rink.
Offensive moves include sidesteps, flip passes, dumps, dekes, one-timers, and speed bursts, with slap shots and wrist shots controllable using the analog thumb pad to guide them into the net. On defense, players can block shots, poke check, sidestep, check, hook, and block dumps. Fights are also part of the game. Players can opt to control their goalies at any time with the press of a button. Additional features include line changes, injuries, instant replay, multiple camera angles, three skill levels, and four game speeds. The frequency of both penalties and fighting can also be adjusted before play. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide
