Midway's rock 'em, sock 'em football game makes the transition from the Arcade to your home PC in NFL Blitz 2000. Smash-mouth football in its purest form, this title puts two teams of seven players each in a no-holds-barred contest where pass interference and slamming the other player into the ground is not only allowed, it's a requirement to win.
Pick your team from a list of real NFL clubs, complete with the best players available. This version is full of brand new stadiums and plenty of realistic weather conditions including snow and rain. You can compete with up to three of your friends, two per team. On the field you pick your play on offense or defense and call an audible or move a receiver at the line of scrimmage if you desire. You'll need 30 yards for a first down, not the traditional 10, so passing the ball is usually the way to go.
Each player has a turbo bar at the bottom of the screen which allows them to kick in the afterburners if necessary. Players can jump for the ball, hurdle someone on the ground or spin out of the grasp of a defender. For added fun you can jump on the opposition even after the play is over.
If you don't like the plays which are available, you can design your own in the Play Editor. You can also start up a season or a tournament and compete for the NFL Blitz championship. Three difficulty levels are available, and tips are presented between quarters to help you play better. ~ Brad Cook, All Game Guide
