Let those golf clubs in your attic continue collecting dust; NES Open Tournament Golf for the Nintendo Entertainment System lets you play golf in the comfort of your living room. You can play the game by yourself or with a friend. If played solo, you are Mario, Nintendo's famous mascot, and you compete against five computer-controlled players: Luigi (Mario's brother), Steve, Mark, Tony, and Billy.
There are three variations of play: Stroke, Match, and Tournament. In the latter mode you can choose between 18 or 36 hole tournaments, and you can choose whether to play in Japan, the United Kingdom, or America. To register your name for a tournament, review your player data, select your clubs, and deposit prize money, you must enter the Club House. You get extra prize money by winning the Longest Drive Contest, the Closest to the Pin Contest, and if you get a hole-in-one.
You can view the selected golf course from overhead, and you can see the action from directly behind your golfer when you are ready to hit the ball. Factors to consider when you are teeing up include: wind speed, remaining distance to the hole, swing speed, club choice, ball spin, and how straight and how hard you want to hit the ball. You should be careful to avoid roughs, sand traps, water hazards, and areas that are considered to be out of bounds. ~ Brett Alan Weiss, All Game Guide
