Naruto Shippuden Legends: Akatsuki Rising is a third-person action-adventure game, the first for PlayStation Portable based in the Shippuden saga the of popular anime series. The game follows the "Kazekage Retrieval" story arc, Naruto's first major adventure after undergoing years of training abroad, and features allies and villains who are more powerful than they were in the original manga and cartoons. The game includes ten playable characters, in different modes. The main "Original" mode sends the heroes on a dangerous mission to free Gaara from his Akatsuki captors, before they can unlock the powerful demon within him. The plot moves forward through character interactions, platform jumping, and plenty of jutsu-powered ninja combat. As the player's character deals and takes damage in battle, an onscreen "Hyper Gauge" slowly fills, eventually unlocking the hero's most powerful combat moves. Single-player side quests in the game's "Scenario" mode allow ninja characters to quest for Skill Scrolls, which can enhance their strength, defense, health, or special abilities. In "Akatsuki" mode, players take control a member of the shadowy ninja organization, and play through parts of the story from the enemy's perspective. Head-to-head sparring is available in the game's "Versus" mode, for two Akatsuki Rising players through an Ad-hoc connection. ~ T.J. Deci, All Game Guide
