DESCRIPTION
With the releases of titles like Mortal Kombat Trilogy and Mythologies, it was clear to say that Midway had lost the plot. In a desperate attempt to rejuvenate the series, Midway have gone for the 3D treatment with some fresh new ideas. The storyline follows the series and after Raiden banished Shinnok to the Netherrealm, the defeat of Shao Kahn prompts Shinnok to escape and bring his own styled war to the Mortals.
The game plays not unlike other Mortal Kombat titles with the same "on a plane" 2D movement fans will be use to. One new feature is the addition of weapons that by entering a special move type sequence of buttons, fighters draw a weapon. However be careful as they can also lose them and have it used against them and likewise scenery such as boulders and skulls can be thrown at opponents. Mortal Kombat 4 also features fifteen fighters of old and new and includes Fujin, Jerek, Jax, Johnny Cage, Kai, Lui Kang, Quan Chi, Raiden, Reiko, Reptile, Scorpion, Shinnok, Sonya, Sub-Zero, Tanya, Noob Saibot and Goro.
Game modes include Arcade with tag and one on one, Team, Endurance, four or eight multi-player Tournament and Practice that lets players turn on information, choose difficulties, backgrounds and check up on move lists. Moves include the obvious special moves and weapons as well as basic, dodging into and out of screen, fatalities, spike fatalities and even fan fatalities.
Options include six difficulties, two to six game rounds, continues from zero to nine, sound balances an Vs-run-blood enablers. ~ Brad Penniment, All Game Guide

“Very underrated installment of the series. It has a very solid cast of characters, great atmosphere, and a very enjoyable and easy to get into battle system. It's certainly not a landmark game like some of the more popular titles in the series, but it nevertheless manages to be my favorite MK game after Deception. (owned and completed, accurate rating is 8.00)”

“It seemed like forever, the time between MK3/UMK3 and MK4, it was weird fighting against Shinnok and I wish there would of been more on what happened to Shang Tsung (who seemed to be replaced by Quan Chi) and Shao Kahn. It was cool to see Goro again.”
