If your a baseball fan and own an Xbox 360, this is what you get. MLB 2k10. Now, I think that this is a well executed baseball sim, but it is lacking in the graphics and animations department. The gameplay and variety of modes is great.
I'm going to be honest, the graphics just aren't up to a competitive level along with Sony's The Show competing baseball sim. Does that mean that the graphics in MLB 2k10 are terrible? No, not really, although they aren't that great either. While some of the player's faces looked really good, others just didn't. On top of that, the animations are decent, but not anything to write home about either.
The gameplay and controls are very good and simple to learn. Unlike some, I am a very big fan of the contact/power/protect swings, each with a different way to use them. It adds an extra sense of realism to the game. Playing the game, honestly, has kepts its excitement for the year and a half I've been playing it for.
The Franchise mode isn't bad, and delivers a reasonably realistic experience. My Player is a terrific idea, although it could be tuned a little better. As a hitter especially, it takes a very long time to make it up to the Major League team, and then once you get there, you're still a very weak player. I found I had a lot of problems getting hits at first, but eventually you turn it around and become a good MLB player.
Generally, the sounds in the game are alright at best. The sound of the bat connecting with the ball could be much better in my opinion. The crowd, also, is not bad, as they seem to get loud and quiet down at the right times every time. The Gary Thorne, Steve Phillips and John Kruk announcing trio works well for me and I think they did a good job.
Throughout the game, I've found a couple glitches, but nothing that ruins the experience too much for me. The worst I've encountered is when I'm facing a computer-controlled opponent and hit it into the outfield, sometimes the fielder will just hold the ball while I run around the bases and end up with an inside-the-park home run. Now, I don't mind it all that much, I'll take the extra run.
Overall, I think that 2k Sports did a good job in making a solid baseball game and believe that the coming games will improve every year. 3 out of 5 stars from me.”
