DESCRIPTION
The portable companion to Codemasters' PlayStation title of the same name, Micro Machines V3 is a racing title set against the backdrop of a series of typical urban locales. These levels include a breakfast table, pool table, school desk, restaurant, and science lab. Though it borrows the course and vehicle design from its namesake, the title makes use of the more familiar overhead perspective and sprites used in the 16-bit incarnations. A selection of fifteen diminutive vehicles — each possessing unique handling characteristics — are available for players to use: F1 racers, tanks, powerboats, monster trucks, and muscle cars. Instead of simply jostling for position, players are able to acquire power-ups scattered about each of the larger-than-life courses. Once collected, these items will imbue the racer with offensive and defensive capabilities such as missiles, giant hammers, and a retractable claw and shield.
In addition to the single-player modes, Micro Machines V3 offers support for up to eight players. However, only two may participate at any one time, and both must use the same GameBoy system. One player utilizes the D-Pad and Start button, while the second player makes use of the A, B and Select buttons. In multi-player competition, the goal is to advance a screen's length ahead of your opponent. Doing so will change one of the on-screen indicators to your assigned color; each player begins with four colored indicators and the first person to turn all eight to their color is declared the winner. The title offers an eight-character password save system in order to record progress, though lap and race times are not saved. ~ All Game Guide
